Big Research Data Transfer

Existing research data would enable people to develop new forms of policy, businesses and applications which are data driven. However, useful Big data is limitedly available at large scale due to scientists perceiving little benefit of opening their research data – which is their source of scientific reputation.

Goal: 

Develop sustainable business models for big data research transfer that motivate researchers to share their data and industry to take advantage out of it.

Approach: 
  • Literature review on big data strategies and related business models.
  • Two case studies – Invention Foundation in Finland and GCAT in Spain - 17 semi-structured interviews in March-June 2017 with database owners, potential users and open science experts.
Results: 
  • Practical guidelines for the development of sustainable business models for big research data transfer including two generic frameworks to strengthen big research data transfer
  • Academic publications related to Open Science and Big data
